Fox & Friends Video Clip

This morning we were on the Fox & Friends morning show on the Fox News Channel. Live TV is always a little scary for me! We had to be at the studio, which was in downtown Austin at 6:45 this morning. We didn't actually go on air until 7:19 am, so the kids enjoyed exploring the set until it was our turn. Unfortunately, by that time, the babies were not quite as subdued as when we first got there, so they were all over the place during the interview. My sister, Tiare, who is here helping for a couple weeks was on the sidelines to wrangle all the run-a-ways. I think one of my favorite parts is when Kassidy hurls a little stuffed animal at us and Jayson masterfully catches it. I also had a talk with Kaiya beforehand about what kinds of things she should or should not be doing during the interview. She did great. As it turns out, it was Riley I should have had that conversation with!!

Here are some "behind the scenes" photos from this morning:

Bright and Early! Kaiya, Riley, Rustin, Ryder, Tiare, Kaydence and Kyndall. We were up ready and on the way to the studio at 6:15 this morning.

Setting up: Kassidy, Ryder, Riley, Rustin, Kyndall, Kaiya, Jayson and Kaydence. The guy at the studio said he had done thousands of interviews with everyone from governors to singers, but we were his first set of quintuplets. I have to say he was amazingly relaxed, considering the chaos we were creating.

More setting up---TV Guy, Kassidy, Ryder, Riley, Kyndall, Rustin and Kaiya. The original idea was for Jayson and I to sit in the chairs, Riley and Kaiya to stand on the sides and all the babies to sit nicely in front of us.

Happy Birthday Kassidy, Kaydence, Rustin, Kyndall and Ryder!!!

Yesterday was the BIG DAY!! Kassidy, Kaydence, Rustin, Kyndall and Ryder turned ONE!! It has been an amazing year. I am so grateful for the help of friends and family that helped us during the last year. To celebrate, we had a huge party with friends, neighbors and relatives. I will post another birthday update with lots of pictures from the big day as soon as I get a chance. In the mean time, several news teams were here this week, and I have put links to their stories below:

There is also an article in the August issue of Austin Monthly magazine. The website was not showing the August issue yet, but it should be soon. The magazine can also be found locally at Costco, Walgreens and HEB.

SIX MONTHS OLD!!

On January 31st, the quints officially turned six months old! It is amazing how fast time flies! Six months is such a fun age. They are very interactive and have such cute personalities. They are starting to discover the world around them, but aren’t quite mobile enough to cause problems. A couple of the local news stations ran stories the week of the babies’ six-month birthday. Check out Jayson’s blog for links to the news stories. One of my favorites was when the anchors from KEYE came to do a volunteer shift with the babies.

Ryder, Kaydence, Rustin, Kyndall and Kassidy loved watching themselves on the news. Kyndall was worried that the camera would add ten pounds to her petite figure and Ryder was concerned that his quotes would be taken out of context, but in the end, all the babies agreed that the stories were pretty good.

Now that the babies are six months old, we have started using the high chairs for their intended purpose---feeding! Solid foods have gotten mixed reviews from the babies. Ryder and Kaydence can’t seem to get enough. They love everything I have tried on them. Rustin is starting to get used to the idea of eating baby food, though for some reason he would rather lick it off of his bib than eat it from the spoon. Kassidy and Kyndall want nothing to do with solid foods. We think we have made some great progress with Kyndall because she has stopped bursting into tears at the mere sight of a spoon.

Look how perfectly these five high chairs fit along the back wall of our kitchen! It is a good thing we didn't have six...

Kassidy's face pretty much sums up her feelings about solid foods.

I consider it a small miracle that for the first six months of their lives, the quints managed to stay totally healthy! Despite the fact that we have so many people coming into the house and Riley and Kaiya bringing home germs from school, their worst ailments were a few stuffy noses. This past week, however, has been a different story. A week and a half ago Kaiya caught some kind of virus that included a couple of days of low-grade fever, runny nose, sneezing and coughing. Despite my best attempts to keep her away from the babies during that time, the sickness quickly spread to other members of the family. I really can’t complain too much, because as far as sicknesses go, this one was pretty mild. However, having a bunch of sick babies around certainly made life interesting!

In honor of the babies six-month birthday, my friend, Kristen Duke, who is a fabulous photographer, came over to take pictures of the babies. My grandma (the babies great-grandma) was in town visiting so we also took some "Four Generation" shots with each of the girls. Kristen took the picture at the top of this post, as well as the pictures that follow. Check out her website at: http://www.kristendukephotography.com/.

Life on Bedrest

Tomorrow I will be 23 weeks---only 11 weeks left until the 34 week goal! It is hard to believe that I have been in Arizona for 5 weeks.

After being released from the hospital, I was put on strict bedrest. This means that I am allowed to go to the bathroom and sit at the table for meals, but otherwise I am supposed to lay down. Not the most exciting lifestyle, but much better than being in the hospital! It seems to be working so far---at my doctor's appointment on Friday everything looked great! The babies are all still healthy and kicking and thanks to the surgery, my cervix is looking good as well.

My mom (see picture below) was in town this week, which definitely helped to make life on bedrest more interesting. Even though I was stuck on the couch, we had a great time visiting. She also ran errands for me, did my laundry, helped take care of Kaiya, and hopefully gave my Aunt Jeanie a little bit of a break. Her visit was way too short and I am looking forward to the end of June when she is coming out to stay until after the babies are born. My father-in-law was also in town for a couple of days on a business trip, so I have really been blessed with visitors this week.

We have also had a little bit of media coverage in the last week. On Wednesday a reporter called to interview my aunt and I for an article in the community section (distributed to the local community of Gilbert, AZ) of the Arizona Republic. The article came out in Thursday's newspaper. The online version can be found at:

Today we were interviewed and photographed for an article that is supposed to come out in the main section of the Arizona Republic. It is kind of fun to be newsworthy. For some reason, no one ever wanted to do a story on me when I was just a carpool-driving mom of two!

Television Debut

Yesterday the quints had their television debut! The local cable news station, News 8 Austin, did a story on the quintuplets. They came to our house and interviewed Jayson and Riley. They got some fun shots of Jayson and Riley and four of the five quints managed to get their ultrasound picture on there. You can watch the video and read the story on the News 8 Austin website at:

http://www.news8austin.com/content/top_stories/default.asp?ArID=182451

I am not sure how long it will remain a "top story", so if that link doesn't work, try going to www.news8austin.com and searching for "Wilkinson" or "quintuplets".
