Ryder is Home!!

Today we brought Ryder home from the hospital! Rustin will be coming home tomorrow. They actually offered to have me take them both today, but I opted for one at a time. I am not one of those people that jumps straight into the pool and gets wet all at once, I am more the one stair at a time type :-) So far Ryder is doing pretty well, despite all of Riley and Kaiya's attempts to "love" him. I was actually a little nervous to start bringing babies home, but the adventure has to start sometime!

This morning I met with some gals from our church who are organizing volunteers to help. It is amazing to me how many people are willing to do something. Sign-up sheets went around in all the classes last Sunday and even several men signed up to help out.

My recovery is slow, but steady. Everyday I feel a little bit better. I still have a lot of swelling in my feet, legs and tummy. If I leave my feet down for too long, they really puff up. My family finds my feet quite entertaining. They (my feet) have been compared to a memory foam mattress---you can push your finger into them and then take it away, but the indent still stays there. And it doesn't just have to be finger shapes, it works for just about anything.

I also walk pretty slowly, since I still have some pain. Today I took my aunt, who has MS, and my grandma with me to the NICU to see the babies. We had a race to see who could get there first. It was kind of like watching three turtles race in slow motion. I am sure we were quite a sight :-) (No offense Grandma and Jeanie).

My kids, when they first saw me in something besides a hospital gown, had some funny comments. My son Riley told me that I was skinny again and he was so excited that he could put his arms all the way around my waist when he hugged me. My daughter, Kaiya, just said, "Wow, mom! How come you are still fat? Did they leave one of the babies in there?" I think I need to work with her on being a little bit more tactful :-)

Welcome home baby Ryder!

I'm so happy for all of you that the babies are doing so well. I am totally shocked they are coming home so soon.

All the best to you all. You sure are blessed, with 7 beautiful children. You have a beautiful family and you all look so happy. May you all be blessed with many more happy days. It will be very tiring for awhile, but well werth it in the end.

Bless everyone that is helpping you all in anyways. I will keep you all in my thoughts and pray that you all keep getting stronger daily.

I have never posted but have been reading your blog for a while now. I would just like to say, you are too funny for a lady about to have 7 kids at home. (hee hee) I also would like to say you are so amazing and beautiful. Those children and "your husband" are very lucky. I wish your family all the best. I didn't have children but would have hoped to have been as good of mom as you are.

Welcome home little man!
Cant wait to get to know you better online!
Really looking forward to seeing pictures of the children altogether.

What are the quints middle names?

From the mouths of babes...that is too funny what they said! I remember Kate saying something similar after Carli was born. ;)

I'm just amazed at how well you and all the babies are doing! How exciting (and I'm sure a little daunting) that they are starting to come home. I just love being around newborn babies. They are the sweetest things ever. You get to enjoy that 5 times over! :) Wish I was there to help out.

Welcome home sweet Rustin. Hope you and your brother Ryder are eating and sleeping the very best you can.

Riley and Kiaya you guys crack me up. I know you two are excited and trying to be helpers to your mom and dad.

Have a great day with the new guys on the block.

LOL for Kaiya. Sounds like something my 5 yr old niece and nephew would say.

It is amazing the kids are starting to come home. The above mentioned twins were born at 25 1/2 wks, and they had to stay in for nearly 3 months.

PS. My sister recommends the online preemie and multiples support groups.

WOW its less than two weeks later and you are bringing babies home?? You really are superwoman. I doubt that has ever been done before with Quints!!

Do you have any clue when you will get to head back to Texas??

Take it easy and get as much rest as you can!!

Welcome home Ryder! Enjoy every moment of being at home with just two siblings . . . that won't happen very often! :)

Rachelle, even slow as a turtle and carrying baby weight (make that five baby weight) you have us all amazed! Way to go.

Remember it will take possibly a long while to even kind of adjust to this new family. My twins are #4 and 5. They are 2 months old tomorrow and everyday we still go through with a huge overwhelming feeling. We are surviving though! I will love hearing how things go for you all. My 2 lovely daughters liked to inform me that I still looked pregnant after my boys. Atleast you can count on there honesty, right! Congrats on Ryder coming home! I am sure the boys will look forward to being together also. Good luck when Rustin and the girls come home also.

So I read the 'official' quints site and realized that all the girls in your family have your first initial (K) and all the boys have your husband's (R). Is there a reason you decided to stick to this pattern? It reminds me of that family with 17 kids whose names all start with J. Seems a little odd to me. Okay, a lot odd because of some of the names you picked, but I guess who cares that I think you guys are a little kooky.

Kids really do say funny things, especially Kaiya and Riley. When I was there last week Riley took one look at my wrinkled hand and said, "You are really really old" I love that boy, and I can't argue with him, because when I look at my hands I think the exact same thing. In many ways I dread the day when they have to learn to be tactful. I love all of you. Grandma W

Congratulations.
I read your blog (and your husbands) all of the time, but never commented. I am thrilled that all of the babies (and MOM too) did so well. You are all well on your way to being under one roof. I pray that the volunteers continue for as long as you need them. I am sure frozen meals would be nice too.

All my best.
