No Wonder I Feel Huge....

After several hours of waiting, I finally had my growth ultrasound this afternoon. The results from the ultrasound are fed into another computer where they are analyzed by a different program that the doctors like better, so it takes a few hours after the ultrasound to find out the results. But, I am happy to say, that the results are finally in! The purpose of the ultrasound was to check growth and to also do something called a biophysical profile or BPP. The BPP looks at baby movement, whether or not the babies are practicing breathing like they are supposed to at this stage, heart beats, and amniotic fluid. All five babies scored 8 out of 8 on this part. The babies also appear to be growing just fine. Before I list the estimated baby weights, let me just give the disclaimer that these are just estimates and have the potential to be off by a bit. They measure the babies head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length and then the computer program uses these measurements to come up with the estimated baby weight. According to today's ultrasound, the babies estimated weights are:

4 lb 11 oz
4 lb 12 oz
4 lb 12 oz
4 lb 8 oz
5 lb 9 oz (yikes!!!)

I was told that the last baby had a large head, so that could be throwing off the measurement just little bit. Looking at the weights is actually kind of scary! Considering I have five babies in there, these weights seem HUGE! Especially since they have 5 days and 11 hours more to grow (not that I am counting down or anything). It is no wonder that I sometimes feel like my tummy is going to split open :-)

When I started this journey, I did have some aspirations to break the quint gestational age record. Over the past couple of weeks, however, I gave up on that idea and decided 34 weeks was plenty. If these estimated baby weights are even close to the actual baby weights, I do have good shot at breaking the quint birth weight records. The current record for the heaviest quint birth weight, all combined, is 21 lb 1.2 oz. The heaviest quint birth weight for a single baby is 5 lb 1.6 oz.

K i am sure you get this alot, but you do not know me, but i have been keeping up with your progress, and am in such awe of what a miracle and blessing this is. I had a set of twins 15 months ago and it is truely a miracle. I too am LDS and from Mesa and think this is neat, and also you look amazing considering all the baby weight you have. Do you believe how big they are. I hope all goes well for you and your whole family.

I've left several comments in the last month telling you that I, like Nancy above, am just in awe of you and your family. I've loved coming here to check the progress you've made and hear how the babies are doing. I hope there will be future updates on life with all the babies and the big kids (which means you'll have to blog about it while showering or changing diapers. But, you can do that, right :) ).

Seriously--you are an amazing woman and I admire your strength!!

Poster woman for quints! You are going to give hope to so many multiple moms out there! I can't wait to see all your little miracles. I love that our lives are still maintaining their parallel courses! (We'll at least for the most part!) ;)

JEEZ!! They are some good kids. I check everday to make sure you still haven't had them. WOW, I once again can not imagine your discomfort. Almost done!! Go girl go.

Go Rachelle!

You have done a great job to get so far. I hope the contractions aren't too painful and that you can rest. Those weights sound totally fantastic! My son was born at 32 weeks weighing 3lbs 12 oz and at 2 1/2 he now towers over kids older than him. (His birth weight was 1700g and his in utero ultrasound estimated 1575g a few hours before he was born). Thinking of you and your family.

Hi Rachelle: I remember not too long ago when you did the hula as Elvis (aka Randy) sang. Those are some nice sized quints and I bet you're just glad to waddle to that tub. Thank you so much for sharing such an inspiring journey with so many. You're a tiny person (yes, I said tiny) with a huge heart and determination. We're praying for you.

Rachelle,

My name is Jessy Robinson and I live in The Woodlands, TX. I was very moved by your story. 2 Years ago we decided to go for number three (we had a 3 year old and a 1 year old at the time) and learned that I became pregnant with spontaneous triplets...I felt exactly the same way when you first learned about your little bundle! Just know that everything will work out and it will be so much fun and joy...it's the best thing that ever happened to us ! Good luck and God bless you!

WOW! I'm continually praying for all of you! Peace and calm and great HEALTH! Steady the course girl!!!

When I think how I complained just carrying one 9 lb. 4 oz. baby, I can't even fathom carrying some 20-odd lbs. of babies!! You're amazing, Rachelle. Keep up the terrific attitude for the coming days to come. We can't wait to meet the babies.

PS - No mind that they won't be native Texans. To quote Lyle Lovett, Texas wants them anyway. :-)

I'm so glad things are going smoothly now and that you don't have to be on as many meds! Good luck over the next few days and know that we're keeping you in our thoughts and prayers! We can't wait to get you back out our way, I know Sarah is dying to have a play date with Riley. Hugs and kisses mommy-to-be!

Rachelle, you have made it to the big time! Your story and a snipet of your video ran on the 6 o'clock news in Austin. You look GREAT!

Rachelle,

I know you don't know, however, I do know that you know my mother, brother, sister-in-law, and their kids. My mother Sandi, speaks of you a fair bit, and told me of your story. Since then, I have been checking on the site daily to see if you've delivered these blessings yet. If the estimates are anywhere near close to delivery weight, that will be truly amazing. Each day that goes by, these babies are getting stronger, and that too is great. Best of luck in your endeavors, and I too hope you continue blogging and updating once they are here se we can see how well they are doing. You will continue to be in our prayers.

Rachelle: Hang in there! I had triplets last year at 35w5d and the end is very tough, but so worth it. And WOW on those weights!!! Mine were all around 5 pounds (the biggest 5.8) and they are all healthy and thriving. I will pray for the same for you. You have done an AWESOME thing, and the fun is just beginning. It is a blessing to have multiples. Deanna Burke, Naperville, IL

I have been watching your blog for awhile too and just wanted to say good luck with the birth and I hope you all do great.

Wow! You are doing a fantastic job growing those babies my dear. I only had one baby and she was only 4lbs 13oz born at 39 weeks gestation! You managed to grow 5 babies that look like they'll be as big if not bigger and born earlier! Nice job...

Danielle said...

I've just finished reading and all i can say is wow!

I wish you all the best of the birth of your babies, you've done such a fantastic job keeping them in there.

Another stranger touched by your story. I was pregnant right along side you with triplets. I found out on December 28th I was pregnant and then Jan. 16th that it was triplets. My due date was Sept.8th. I delivered them on July 3rd at 30w 3d. Although in the NICU still, they are doing GREAT and just learning to eat. They are feeders and growers. I too was hoping and praying to make it to 34 weeks...GOD BLESS YOU! I am in awe of your accomplishment. I know how "huge" I was feeling and how ready I was to "throw in the towel", so you are really amazing! You look GREAT! I can't believe their weights! Its good you know that they are estimates though since mine were off. Best of luck to you and your whole family.

Jennifer said...

You are doing fantastic! you are amazing hang in there...just a few more days.

I remember how that long those last days felt. I delivered my trio at 36 weeks 2 days, but even with just three they were not as big as your gang is measuring already!

At this rate your babies may need very little assitance. I'll be praying and watching for updates.
