Water Fun and ABC News Story

I was interviewed yesterday for an article on ABC News.com. I am not sure how long it will be there, but right now there is a picture of our family with a link to the article on the main ABC news home page. It is kind of funny to see my family's picture right below Oprah, Obama and Angelina Jolie. The reporter had a definite plan for the article and he only used quotes that supported his thesis. He also got a few little details wrong. For example, I don't actually spend $60/week on milk. I told him the babies drank 5 gallons of milk/week----for $60 that would have to be some pretty great milk!

Here is a direct link to the article:

Since the "Octomom" made headlines, I get asked A LOT why I implanted five embryos--Just to set the record straight, I DID NOT do IVF (in-vitro). I did use fertility drugs, for which the odds of conceiving quintuplets was 1 in 56,000. For more info, check out my early posts:

On another note....

A couple of weeks ago, our good friends, the Park's, invited us over to play outside and have dinner. They had sprinklers and a water toy that the babies just loved. The Park's have kids close in age to our kids, so we all had a really great time. I forgot my camera at home, but fortunately my friend had hers! (Her camera was on a strange setting for part of the time, which is why the colors are a little off in some of the pictures, but they were too cute not to include!)

Kassidy, Rustin, Nolan, Kaydence, Ryder and Kaiya play with the fun water toy.

Rustin REALLY enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies!

Cute pictures!!! That reporter definitely had an agenda! Hmmm Yeah $60 a week on milk!?! LOL And he spelled Jon and Kate's last name wrong... if you're going to slam them at least spell their name right! Oh well! It was a good family picture of you all! :) And really it's true that the majority of families like yours DON'T get reality TV shows and everything that Jon and Kate and Octomom have gotten... although, who would want to be Octomom... really?! LOL

Hope you guys are having a great summer!

Hi Rachelle,

I was shocked at the vile readers' comments below the article. Don't you listen to them. (Well, that might be easier said than done...I suppose it probably hurts all the same.) It seems to be happening more and more often these days: people judge and jury away without paying attention to facts and feelings.

In the old days, before TV and internet, people judged because they were not informed. Now that we have (or should have) a good information system, people still judge, but this time around they are spilling media fed opinions that they first gobbled up from TV. Alas that slamming and outrageous exaggeration sell better than respectful reports. People watch it all the time and it inhibits their ability to think and reason properly, or to make some room in their hearts for other people's points of view.

Rachelle, I think that you and Jayson are doing a wonderful job with your children. If anything, their radiant smiles and the way they obviously feel happy in their own skins says more than a thousand words. Just keep in mind that if a reader posts a vile comment, it is saying something about that reader, not about you.

I love the water pictures!

Take care,
Maaike

I totally agree with Maaike van Oosterom.

Mommy TTSK also is right, I wouldn't want you to be Jon and Kate or Octomom. In my opinion, you and Jayson, are pretty much A+ parents and are doing a terrific job.

News of any kind must be heard, read or seen with a grain of salt. They slant the story, miss quote and most often never get it right.

Can't wait to see your special.

Actually the comment above is from me, I'm using Matt's computer. I'm visiting in Colorado for a week helping M and M pack up their house. They will move into a new house in December which means storage and rental for the next 6 months. They own a lot of stuff, just like the rest of us.

I agree with the Queen. So glad you are the super parents you are with only one agenda: to love and nurture those little Wilkinsons.

Great pictures of water babies and children! Water is truly the cheapest and best summer toy.

I know for certain you and Jayson are super parents.

The babies look cute in just their little swimmies!!

So cute. And better parents could not be found on this earth. I'm amazed at the amount of unkind people that are out there.

Although you don't 'know' me, I was also appalled at some of the comments (well, most of them) from the article. Everything I have read from your blog says just the opposite of what they are saying about your family. May your future be as blessed as your past has been - you have a beautiful family ~ from a fellow mom of 7 (I just had mine 1 at a time).

I just read the article and comments, I'm completely shocked at the rude comments! There will always be a few that ruin it for the rest. But your children's happy faces says all that needs to be said. And it is a nice family photo anyway.

What unusual colors in those pictures. The babies look like martians. Cute martians.

I seriously got sick to my stomach after reading those TERRIBLE comments on the article. Why do people out there think they have a right to have an opinion on everyones life style? To be so jugemental?
PS. As always, your kids are super cute!! :) My kids love to play in the water too!!

I just read the article and agree with Casey. The comments made me sick. I think you guys are awesome. Keep up the good work and don't let the jerks get you down. They have NO IDEA what we have all gone through to have babies. BTW, we didn't do IVF either, why does everyone just ASSume that? UGH!

GREAT pictures!
XOXO

WOW! I think this is such a cool blog! My husband and I are students at the Y right now (set to graduate in April! YAY!) and I'm pregnant with our first (and possibly second). We find out if it's twins in a couple weeks. :D It's been a hard week since morning sickness set in, but this was a great uplift for me. It was so nice to suddenly come across this blog in my pregnancy research AND find out that you're LDS (and in TEXAS!!!). I'm a die-hard, born-and-raised Texan, so that made me grin. Anyway, just wanted to thank you for posting. :) Good luck with the ABC article!

Just read the article. Hmmm... hope my comment reaches at least one basher. It's kind of embarrassing to read their bashes. Have a great day!

Crazy news story, I knew from the first episode of Jon and Kate you were far more stellar and deserved way more $$$. But yes, swimming lessons for 5 at a time? Yikes.

The coloring made Rustin look different, apart from the chocolate face. :)

My 22-month old loves the Cozy Coupe as well. Everytime he sees one, he makes a beeline, so that's what we're doing for his birthday.

Did you know the Cozy Coupe was the best selling car in America, even better selling than the real ones on the road?
