2010 Calendar Outtakes---Installment 1

For some reason, I keep thinking that the older the quints get, the easier it will be to take their picture---in reality the opposite has been true. The older they get, the faster they run, the harder it is to get all five in the same picture. Getting all five to be CUTE and HAPPY in the same picture is an even bigger feat! Every year when I am taking the pictures for the calendar, I wonder if I am crazy to even attempt it, but in the end I am always glad that I did it and I love having the calendars as a keepsake.

Last year I posted some of the outtakes and "behind the scenes" stories of the calendar pictures (see HERE and HERE) and I decided to do the same this year. Here is the first installment...

January--105 Pictures taken

I decided early on that the quints HAD to be the five little monkeys jumping on the bed for Halloween one year. When a friend found these monkey costumes at Old Navy, I fell in love with them the moment I saw them. A "jumping on the bed" picture was an obvious necessity! We used the bed in the guest room, dressed the babies in their costumes and let them have at it. They had a great time, and despite lots of falls, we didn't have to call the doctor! It is amazing how much they look alike with only their faces showing.

It didn't take long for the monkeys to tear apart the "set"

February--106 Pictures Taken

My neighbor has a beautiful Rolls Royce replica that we thought would be great for a picture. We were so grateful that he let us use it! He takes meticulous care of his car, so we were surprised when it was his idea to drive the car onto the grass to get a better backdrop.

I shopped around to find outfits for this picture, but never came up with anything. As we were getting ready for the photo shoot, we finally decided that the boys would wear a sweater/pants combo that I found on clearance a while back and was hanging in the closet. When we took the sweaters off the hangers, we realized the pants had suspenders! We were so excited---they were exactly what we needed for our old car picture.

Driving the car on the grass to find a good photo spot.

March--151 Pictures Taken

This picture was the original inspiration for the umbrella picture:

But, getting everyone to cooperate was harder than I thought! They all wanted to play with the umbrella and run up and down the street (I am sure the neighbors got a good show that day!). We finally decided to bring out the bribes (aka animal cookies) to see if we could get them to stay in one place. Amazingly enough, while GG went back in the house to get the cookies, the quints decided to sit down all together on a small stone ledge. I quickly put the umbrella behind them and we ended up getting a good picture before GG got back with the treats.

I got lots of pictures like this one---with everyone RUNNING away the second we were ready to take the picture

April--101 Bunny Pictures + 5 Basket Pictures Taken

This picture was a little bit easier because we shot each child individually and then photoshopped everyone into the basket. We actually only bought one girl shirt and one boy shirt and they all shared. Rustin was such a clown during the shoot---he was all over the place.

The basket was quite easy to shoot---it sat still when I told it to and it never once tried to run away!

I cannot even get a decent picture with two 3 year olds. So, I can just imagine how difficult it is with so many kiddos.

I sometimes just decide to postpone the photo shoot!!
