Christmas 2008--Part 2

Christmas Morning

Christmas morning the babies woke bright and early at 6:15 am. Riley and Kaiya had been fretting for weeks about what would happen on Christmas morning. They were so worried that the babies would try to unwrap all the presents. Riley must have come up with at least 10 different ideas of what we could do to prevent the babies from “ruining” everything. In the end, all that worrying was for nothing! Although they were to young to really “get” what was going on, the babies were so excited about everything. My parents got them a kitchen set and that was the first thing they noticed. They ran right over and started checking it out. They were pretty oblivious to all the wrapped gifts that Santa had left. In the beginning, we tried to get the babies to open a few gifts. Once we started tearing the paper, they enjoyed ripping the rest off. But once they had a few things open, they were not interested in opening more. They were content to play with the paper, bows and boxes strewn about the room.

Riley and Kaiya, on the other hand, were a different story. I’ve decided that everyone needs a child like Riley on Christmas morning. He is a great present opener. He gets so excited about everything he opens---even the clothes! He even got excited about things other people were opening. My mother gave me a laminator, and when I opened it Riley exclaimed, “Oh WOW! You got a LAMINATOR!!! That is SO COOL! You have been wanting a laminator!”

Once the presents were open, it was time for our traditional Christmas morning breakfast of cinnamon rolls and little boxes of cereal.

Since the babies went to sleep before we took pictures, we attempted to take some jammie pictures with them on Christmas Day. The boys were a little more cooperative than the girls!

In the afternoon, Virginia and Ron came over and brought the babies five "push" toys: a popcorn popper, music roller, grocery cart, lawn mower and vacuum cleaner. They were a big hit!

Kyndall didn't care much for pushing the toys, but she did insist to get IN the shopping cart

Ryder almost immediatly became attached to the vacuum cleaner. I don't think it left his hands for three days--except at bedtime when we had to pry his fingers off of it. I had to change all his diapers on the floor so he could continue to hold it.

All in all, I have to say it was one of the best Christmases ever. Even though I never thought I wanted such a big family, I am so glad that things turned out the way that they did. My family is the most important thing to me, and they bring me such joy and happiness.

I love that you have your kids waiting at the top of the stairs on Christmas morning. My mom and dad did that to us when we were growing up. Its the one thing that really sticks out in my mind growing up. The waiting, anticipating then going downstairs all together and seeing everything for the first time. My parents always taped our faces/reactions. I hope to continue the tradition with my kids.

Loved the Christmas posts! Just one thing though, isn't that Kyndall with Kaiya in the 18th pic of the 2nd post, not Kaydence.

I really can't think of anything clever to say except this post just makes me smile and laugh. Of course I love all the pictures but the one with Riley opening his present reminds me that this is how we should all feel and look when we open a gift. Another standout is all three boys in their jammies with Ryder adding one pink croc as an accessory. If Ryder likes the play vac give him the real one and put him to work. It looks like Christmas was a blast at your house.

Great to see you had a wonderful christmas! My favourite pics of these posts are those with Riley/Kaydence and Kaiya/Kyndall. The bigger ones look so proud and caring and the little ones so trustful <3

We definitely missed having you at your parents' house for Christmas this year. Tiare made your cinnabon recipe and they turned out great! Our kids were pretty crazy, and I kept thinking how crazy (but fun) it would have been if all of the Curtis grandkids were there. McKay said there is no way we are going to travel for the holidays again because it is just too hectic (and expensive). Your brothers might be relieved by that because of the chaos we brought with us. Oh well...it is good for them :)

What a GREAT Christmas! Ryder holding that vacuum was so cute, and Kyndall in the shopping cart. I want to give them all hugs!

You kids are getting so big! I loved all of the pictures. I wish that I could've been there on Christmas morning. I bet you had so much fun. I hope that you are doing good.

Isn't it so cute when they just fall in love with a toy. I love that.

Wow! You look so YOUNG to have 7 kids :)

This Christmas was a lot more interesting with my 17 month (well, 16.67 mo at the time) old than last year was. But he didn't want to open all the gifts at once either. Since he's an only child (for now) we could pause and let him play with his toys for a while before continuing on opening.

He didn't get any of those push toys. But he got a huge dump truck (that I was thinking could be used as a push) and all he wanted to do with it was sit in it too!

Thank you for sharing your family with us.

Happy New Year to all 9 of you. I love reading your blog (have done so since just before you gave birth) and it brought a smile to my face looking through your pictures. I have a large family too, a son aged 9, a set of twin girls aged 7 and another set of twin girls aged 2. The wonder and excitement of christmas was the same in my house as yours and we had a wonderful time.
So here's wishing your family a fabulous and healthy 2009 from the Oakley family in the UK. xxxxxxxx

Hi,
I stumbled across your blog from another friends blog. Your story seemed familiar. When I was pregnant with twins (14months old now) I met another pregnant mom in our ward that had just moved here from Texas, and she mentioned a family in her old ward that had had quints. I called her to confirm your name with her, yep she knew you. Valerie VanWagenen speaks very highly of you and your family. What a small world! I look forward to viewing your blog more often.

Thank you! As an LDS, part time Stay at home mom of 4, I've really loved your blog. It's brought much light into my days as I do my other job, resting and healing from the pregnancy, labor and surgeries due to baby #4.
My baby is right at the stage you listed as your favorite. It made me stop and think and be grateful that I have a baby right at that stage now to hug and love. THANK YOU! -Rachel in WA, realityfromrachel.blogspot.com
